Software pengolah kata, tabel, dan presentasi terbaru berbasis open source OpenOffice versi 3.0 segera diluncurkan di Paris, Perancis, Senin (13/10). Meski demikian, software tersebut sebenarnya sudah tersedia untuk diunduh (download) sejak akhir pekan lalu. Versi terbaru software tersebut disediakan untuk pengguna sistem operasi Windows, Linux, Solaris, maupun Macintosh.

Untuk pertama kalinya, OpenOffice 3.0 juga langsung dapat dipakai pada Mac OS X.

Software tersebut juga mendukung standar dokumen ISO, baik ODF (open document format) maupun OOXML (Open XML) yang sebelumnya hanya dipakai Microsoft Office 2007. Selain itu, jujga tersedia fasilitas filter untuk mengelola dokumen yang dibuat dengan Microsoft Office sehingga makin mudah bagi pengguna untuk melakukan edit dan impor dokumen dengan lancar.

Tawaran menarik OpenOffice yang tak mungkin ditolak pengguna komputer adalah karena dapat dipakai secara cuma-cuma. Beberapa mirror untuk mengunduh antara lain sudah tersedia di Universitas Utah. (kompas)

OpenOffice 3.0 will be officially released on October 13, 2008, as scheduled on their RoadMap. However, the installation file was already exist on some mirror server. It would be as preparation phase so we can expect that on the specified date, the installation file will be already available.

Anyway, if we could not wait until October 13, 2008, we can find some external mirror that already provide Open Office 3.0 installation file.

Before the released of OpenOffice 3.0, I’ve testing the Beta and Release Candidate that built for openSUSE 11.0 and quite impressed with the quality with this new version. It looks nicer and faster than previous version. You can find a complete set of OpenOffice 3.0 features here and here.
